Hamidiye Mosque Frankfurt am Main

HOUSE RULES

Respect • Responsibility • Peaceful Coexistence

Preamble

The Hamidiye Mosque is a place of prayer, encounter, education and peaceful coexistence. It stands for respect, mutual consideration, social responsibility and interfaith dialogue.

All visitors are welcome regardless of origin, nationality, gender, age, disability, religion, worldview or social background, provided that they respect the dignity of the place of worship, the applicable laws and the following rules.

The Hamidiye Mosque is committed to the free and democratic constitutional order and to the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. Extremist, anti-constitutional, violent or inhumane ideologies and activities have no place on our premises.

1

Respect, non-discrimination and peaceful coexistence

All visitors must treat one another politely, respectfully and with dignity.

Insults, threats, intimidation, discrimination, physical confrontation, aggressive behaviour and deliberate provocation will not be tolerated.

No person may be demeaned, disadvantaged or excluded, in particular on the grounds of origin, nationality, skin colour, language, religion, worldview, age, gender or disability.

The Hamidiye Mosque places great importance on enabling people with physical, sensory or other impairments to participate in community life and events.

People with disabilities or additional support needs are welcome to contact the mosque or its board. Where special assistance is required, we kindly ask visitors to contact us in advance whenever possible. This allows us to arrange volunteers who can, for example, assist wheelchair users, people with limited mobility or visually impaired visitors with access, orientation or movement within the mosque.

We endeavour to reduce existing barriers as far as reasonably possible and to find practical solutions together.

Differences of opinion must be handled respectfully. Conflicts should be resolved calmly, objectively and peacefully.

Instructions given by the mosque board, the imam or authorised representatives must be followed within the scope of the mosque’s house rules.

2

Prayer and prayer times

The mosque is first and foremost a place of worship. Particular attention must therefore be paid to silence, order and an appropriate atmosphere during prayer times.

Mobile phones must be switched to silent mode.

Loud conversations, phone calls, music, videos and other disruptive activities are not permitted during prayers or in prayer areas.

Entrances, exits, emergency routes and areas used by worshippers must be kept clear.

3

Quietness and consideration for our neighbours

The Hamidiye Mosque is part of its neighbourhood. Maintaining a good relationship with our neighbours is very important to us.

Before and after prayers and events, unnecessary noise, loud conversations, shouting, car horns, loud music and engines left running outside the building must be avoided.

Particular consideration must be shown during evening and night-time hours as well as on Sundays and public holidays.

Visitors are requested to leave the mosque premises and surrounding streets quietly and promptly after events.

4

Parking and traffic

Vehicles may only be parked in legally permitted and designated parking spaces.

Driveways, garages, private parking spaces, pavements, fire access routes, emergency routes and neighbouring property entrances must never be blocked.

All traffic and parking regulations must be strictly observed.

Double parking and unnecessary stopping in front of the mosque are prohibited.

Parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities may only be used by authorised persons and must never be blocked.

Whenever possible, visitors are encouraged to use public transport, bicycles, car-sharing arrangements or legal parking facilities further away.

5

Cleanliness and order

Cleanliness is a shared responsibility.

All rooms, sanitary facilities, washing areas, entrances and outdoor areas must be left clean and tidy.

Waste must only be placed in the designated bins.

Dropping litter, cigarette ends, packaging or food waste on the mosque grounds or in the surrounding neighbourhood is prohibited.

Any dirt or damage should be cleaned immediately where possible or reported to the responsible persons.

6

Alcohol, drugs and smoking

The possession, consumption, sale or distribution of illegal drugs or other prohibited substances is strictly forbidden on the entire premises.

Alcoholic beverages may not be brought onto, consumed or distributed on the premises of the Hamidiye Mosque.

Smoking is prohibited inside the entire building. In outdoor areas, all applicable instructions must be observed and consideration must be shown to neighbours.

Persons who are seriously under the influence of alcohol or drugs and thereby endanger public order or safety may be refused entry.

7

Compliance with the law and constitutional principles

The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany apply throughout the premises.

Unlawful conduct will not be tolerated.

The Hamidiye Mosque firmly rejects extremism, terrorism, violence, hatred, antisemitism, racism, hostility towards groups of people and all activities directed against the constitutional order.

Party-political advertising, recommendations to vote for individual parties or candidates and the dissemination of extremist, anti-constitutional, violent or inhumane content are prohibited in the mosque and on its premises. The Hamidiye Mosque remains neutral in party politics.

At the same time, the Hamidiye Mosque is expressly committed to democratic participation. We welcome civic education and social engagement within the free and democratic constitutional order and encourage everyone entitled to vote to inform themselves, to exercise their democratic rights and in particular to make use of their right to vote. This appeal is made independently of any party, political group or candidate.

The mosque may not be used as a platform by organisations, groups or individuals acting against the free and democratic constitutional order or against peaceful coexistence in society.

8

Interfaith and social dialogue

The Hamidiye Mosque sees itself as part of society and promotes encounters, understanding and respectful exchange between people of different religions and worldviews.

Guests of other faiths and visitors without religious affiliation are welcome.

Interfaith and social dialogue should always be characterised by mutual respect, openness and peacefulness.

Provocative, derogatory or aggressive proselytising towards other religions, denominations or worldviews is not permitted.

9

Protection of the mosque and its facilities

The building, furniture, religious objects and technical facilities must be treated with care.

Damage, tampering and improper use are prohibited.

Damage or potential hazards must be reported immediately to the mosque board or other responsible persons.

10

Events and use of premises

Events, meetings, information stands, collections, publications, filming, photography and the distribution of leaflets or other materials require prior approval from the mosque board.

The premises may only be used for authorised purposes consistent with the principles of the Hamidiye Mosque.

Where reasonably possible, events should be organised in a way that enables people with disabilities to participate with as few barriers as possible.

11

House authority

The board of the Hamidiye Mosque and persons authorised by the board exercise house authority.

Anyone who violates these rules, endangers others, disturbs the peace of the mosque or engages in unlawful conduct may be asked to leave the premises and may be banned from entering.

Where conduct may constitute a criminal offence, the police or other competent authorities may be informed.

12

Our shared principle

We all share responsibility for ensuring that the Hamidiye Mosque remains a safe, clean, peaceful, accessible and respectful place.

Respect for God, our fellow human beings, our guests and our neighbours is the foundation of our life together.
