The sun is our clock

Muslims pray five times a day. The sun shows when: depending on where it is in the sky, it is time for a different prayer.

The five prayers

  • 🌅 Fajr (Sabah): very early in the morning, when it gets light – before the sun rises
  • ☀️ Dhuhr (Öğle): at midday, after the sun has been at its highest
  • 🌤️ Asr (İkindi): in the afternoon, when shadows grow longer
  • 🌇 Maghrib (Akşam): when the sun has set
  • 🌙 Isha (Yatsı): when it is dark outside

Try it!

Look out of the window today: where is the sun right now? On our home page you can see how long it is until the next prayer. In summer the morning prayer is very early, in winter much later – because in winter the sun rises later.
